Do You Subscribe to the Valentine’s Day Hype?

Current Music: Gwen Stefani – “The Sweet Escape” – Yeah, that’s right I’m listening to Gwen Stefani, get over it.  Also, yes, it is 3:05 in the AM on this snowy ass Valentine’s Day as I write this post, im sure all you “teachers” will have tomorrow off because of the amount of snow we get tonight or the fact that it’s “too” cold outside so you all should be able to read this tomorrow when you wake up…

On to the Valentine’s Day discussion:

Valentine’s Day: Worth it or not?  I guess that depends on your current personal life situation.  Do you have a significant other?  Are you happy with your current “status?”  All these become a factor in determining your personal assessment of Valentine’s Day.

Obviously, using myself as an example is the most obvious (and easy) situation for me to decipher.  I am single.  I am MORE than happy being single.  Therefore, Valentine’s Day means pretty much nothing to me.  Granted, if i was in a relationship, let me rephrase, a healthy, happy relationship, I would more than likely go out of my way to take care of my significant other on this day, whether it be by sending flowers, planning dinner, or any other sweet things I could think of.  Instead, however, I will use this day as an excuse to go out and party, no doubt with all of my other single friends.  That’s just how it is.

What about all those who are not single?  What about those who have had a significant other for a short or long time?  Hell, how about those who are engaged or married?  How do you feel about Valentine’s Day?  Is it a day where you “have” to do something, or is it a day where you actually want to do something?  Listen, I am ALL for being romantic, sweet, caring, etc. etc. etc. but is Valentine’s Day just an excuse for girls to get what they want?  I could send you flowers ANY other day of the week any month the rest of the year, however, if I miss Valentine’s Day the world is ending for you.  What gives?  Honestly, you KNOW every restraunt we want to go to is going to be booked solid (of course, unless your a G like msyself and make reservations weeks in advance).  I just don’t understand why February 14th needs to be SO special.  Shit, let me take you out the 15th to the nicest restraunt you have EVER been to, will it mean as much to you as it would if it were on Valentine’s Day?  Girls are petty guys, there is nothing we can do about it, no way around it.  You better hope to God you don’t forget Valentine’s Day thats all I know.

So anyway, today is Valentine’s Day and my advice to you guys is this:  if you have a significant other take your girl out (I hope its a girl), buy her flowers, and hey, maybe even try to think OUTSIDE the box, make her happy on this one freaking day that means SO much to her (unless of course you have an awesome girl who doesn’t care about V-Day).  Because seriously, what else will you be doing on a Wednesday night?  Maybe if you play your cards right you’ll even get laid!  Think about it.

As for me, I’m going to live up the single life to the fullest potential possible.  Valentine’s Day will become my excuse to go out to the bar and drink with my other single, awesome friends who have nothing else to do like me but go out and have a great time!
