Where to Begin?
I have a lot to talk about, unfortuantley, I have to start with the biggest (and most tragic) item first. Yesterday, 32 innocent people were gunned down at Virginia Tech University by Cho Seung-Hui, 23, of South Korea. He was a senior majoring in English and described by his teachers and students as a, “loner.” Apparently, Cho was suffering from depression and was on medication. To date, this is the deadliest shooting rampage in modern U.S. history. My question, along with everyone elses, is why?
What drives someone to do this? Is it our society? Movies? Music? Or is this just a case of a Korean immigrant having trouble assimilating to U.S. ways? I’d also like to know why we allow legal immigrants with green cards, as long as they have no felonies, the right to buy dangerous firearms? Events like this should not be happening, all schools should be safe, they’re supposed to be a learning sanctuary for kids. Which brings me to the next point, which is, did Virginia Tech act appropriately? From what I understand most emails were not sent out till after 9 AM warning kids to not leave the building, when in fact the first shootings happend sometime during the 7 AM hour. What were they thinking? VA Techs defense is that they thought the first incident was isolated and a domestic dispute, but what I’m saying is, should that matter? You had a guy shoot and kill two people in a dorm room, isn’t that enough cause to close campus? I think so. I’m not going to turn this into a debate, but I will say that all universities and all schools alike should be taking note from this incident and making sure they have contingincies in place in case n event like this happens again. But this isn’t about the school, this is about the kids who were killed and their families that now have to deal with this tragedy. My heart and prayers go out.
There is no easy way to transition forward after a story like the one above, but I move to sports. Ten days ago the Michigan State mens hockey team won their 3rd NCAA Championship title against Boston College. It was a very exciting as the game was tied 1-1 until only 18.9 seconds remained before overtime when Justin Abdelkader shot one past BC’s goalie, Cory Schneider to break the tie. Chris Mueller added an empty netter with 1.2 seconds left to raise the Spartans to a 3-1 victory. Go Green!
I would also like to take this time to (once again) thank Chouse for upgrading me to the newest version of Gallery2 (2.2.1) thus fixing the ENTIRE gallary! Everything FINALLY works! What does that mean for all of you? Lot’s more updating and a lot more pictures in the gallery!
Oh ya, I also recently got a job at Camp Ti as a waiter, just something part time to make me some money while I continue my education. It’s been pretty okay thus far, the people I work with are great which makes working that much easier. In fact, I have to work in an hour so it’s time for me to get ready!
