AI Blog

Yes, I watch American Idol.  I know, I know.  Ever since last season I haven’t been able to turn away, I’m not quite sure why, it’s the same crap all the time and a lot of the same songs being sung over and over.  It’s a search for a cookie-cutter music artist that the music industry can market and make millons off of.  Not all American Idol winners have gone on to do well, Rubin Studdard, Fantasia Barrino, and Taylor Hicks ring a bell?  However, some have gone on to become top selling artists with mega-hits, like Kelly Clarkston and mmmmm Carrie Underwood.  Maybe this is why I watch (not for the hot girls, although this helps) but because it intrigues me to see who has the potential to possibly become the next great pop/country/rock singer, even if I will never buy their album.  Oh, and I secretly like watching some people fall on their face (but only the annoying ones I can’t stand).  This season is no exception with the first Top 36 live show being last night.  This year they are splitting the 36 into 3 groups of 12 that will perform once each week and only the top 3 will move forward.  This makes for a top 9 contestants, the 3 remaining spots will make up a wild card show where 3 more will move on to give us the top 12.  Last night was group one and let me tell you it was horrible.  With an exception of a few people most everyone seemed incredibly nervous and way off key.  Here are some highlights:

  • Jackie Tohn wore the most hideous pants I have ever seen with an equally horrible shirt, although her Nike hightops were very gangster
  • Stevie Wright was obviously terrified and it showed
  • Stephen Fowler blew his second chance
  • Casey Carleson cannot dance and has very weird facial expressions, although very hot
  • Michael Sarver will probably be a wild card show contestant
  • Alexis Grace has risen to become the “dark horse” of the competition a la Kelly Clarkson style and should move on
  • Anoop Dogg is still in the house (if America doesn’t F up) and will hopefully go forward
  • Danny Gokey killed it as the last contestant up, he basically let the show go out on a high note instead of all the previous low and off key ones and will obviously go to the next round
  • This brings me to everyone’s most talked about and most annoying contestant (it’s like last years Sanjaya) – Tatiana Nicole Del Toro.  This broad did okay, but I have a feeling America is going to ruin this and vote her through or make her a wild card, neither of which should happen.  She wasn’t stellar and she looked like she gained weight since Hollywood.  I can’t stand this broad, I hope she throws a tempertantrum when she gets booted off this show

Tonight is the first results show for the season, always lame.  Somehow they manage to get this show to be an hour long, it should be 30 minutes, of course I will still end up watching it because nothing good is on tonight until after American Idol when Lost starts (best show on TV by the way).  I hope my predictions come to pass, although America has ruined this show before (Sanjaya).

I can’t believe I have come to updating my blog about TV shows.  I am now a TV junkie and I will blame my Sony flatscreen for providing me with brilliant colors and vivid sounds which keeps my senses tingling with delight.

On a side note, last weekend was Valentine’s as I’m sure you all know.  I went to Thanksgiving Point with Rachel to the dinosaur museum which was very cool.  Afterwords, I made dinner – filet mignon and steak shrimp with cheesy sour creme mashed potatoes and Ceasar salad, it was quite good and Rachel was impressed with my culinary skills.

Well, that’s it for now, I wanted to get a quick update in there since it’s been a while.  Maybe I’ll be back next week to talk about Group 2 in AI… as my life is obviously lame.
