Pre-Memorial Day Weekend
Gosh, it’s been a minute eh? I have had a lot happening for me (both good and bad) over the past few weeks thus my mini-sabbatical. Yesterday I FINALLY finished my certification for Network+, what a pain in the ass that was. It’s basically just memorizing a bunch of acronyms like BNC, BRI, PRI, CAT5, CAT3, WAP, ISDN, VPN, DNS, NAT, WINS, RAID, DHCP, UPS, FTP, TFTP, SSL, SSH, SFTP, IP, TCP/IP, HTTP, I swear to you, these are all real and mean something to me, granted I will forget half of them in a few weeks, but oh well. Network+ took much longer to do than Linux+ did. I finished Linux in 4 weeks flat, Network+ took somewhere around 7 weeks due to the brutal amount of info in each lesson.
Network+ has been the most central aspect of my life the past few weeks but other stuff has happened. The Red Wings are in the Eastern Conference Finals (again) and playing another Original 6 team in the Chicago Blackhawks. I think the Wings are going to win in 5, mainly because Chicago is a young team, but watch out for those guys in a few years, I have a feeling a Detroit v Chicago rivalry may be upon us sooner than we think.
Oh yeah, and the LOST season finale was last week! Best. Show. Finale. This. Year. In fact, that single episode was the best I have seen of all 6 season BY FAR, even better than Episode 1 (which many people would disagree with me on). The scene at the end with Sawyer and Juliet was by far one of the most gripping scenes in the history of LOST and I cannot beleive what happend! I am so excited for 2010 when the final season kicks off.
Also, American Idol ended yesterday! I don’t normally brag about watching this show, in fact sometimes it’s a pain my ass to even bother (too many commercials, too many ”extras”) but now that I have a DVR I find this much more bearable. Instead of watching a 1 hour episode on the days they perform I can finish it in about 15 minutes and don’t even get me started on the results show. Anyway, yesterday was the culmination of season 6 between Adam and Kris. Everyone expected Adam to win because of his ridiculous stage/acting/singing skills but Kris somehow managed to pull the biggest upset of the year, and good for him. Kris has way more radio appeal than Adam and Adam just screams so much I can’t stand it. All those UBER Adam fans are out there bitching and moaning about conspiracy theories, give me a break. Over 100 million votes were cast people.
What to do this weekend is currently my question of choice. I have 4 days off (Friday-Monday). Unfortunately, I have to work at my part-time job on Saturday, this breaks my mini-vacation up in half and immediately makes camping that much more difficult. I have been thinking about going backwoods camping, ya know, just walking somewhere and setting up shop. The problem is, I have no idea what the regulations are at all the places I’ve checked, not to mention most of the places are in higher elevations and I’m sure there is still snow up there. Sigh. I am really hoping in July/Aug/Sept I can do some camping!
I think tomorrow I am going to go hiking early in the AM. I’m thinking about going to Desolation Lake in Big Cottonwood Canyon, it’s roughly a 10 mile hike roundtrip so it will be a long one but after all of my studying and lack of working out for the past month I could use the exercise. It looks like this weekend is going to shape up to be pretty low-key which is fine with me, 4 days of not working is going to be stellar. I will bring my camera with me hiking this weekend and so if I see some good scenary I will upload the pics later this weekend.
4 weeks from today is my return to the mitten!
